Once sister cities, Minas Ithil was called ‘Tower of the Rising Moon’ & Minas Anor called ‘Tower of the Rising Sun’, but in TA 2002 the Ringwraiths captured the keep and corrupted it. The once gleaming walls were said to glow pale with a “corpse-light” and Minas Anor was renamed Minas Tirith, or “Tower of the Guard” to represent Gondor’s vigilance against the darkness of Mordor and the Morgul Vale.
